The Old Republic canon period is wide open, especially in the millennia before the Empire. The books focus on the battle against Warlord Zsinj and are humorous and emotional. Wraith Squadron was born as Antilles and former Rogue Squadron member Wes Janson created a new unit of soldiers whose unconventional ideas and abilities had them on their last legs in the New Republic military. Wedge Antilles, trying to stay in command of forces on the ground instead of joining the brass, gets Admiral Ackbar to agree to allow him to create a new fighter squadron that will combine black ops work with traditional starfighter combat roles. This allows author Aaron Allston's excellent Wraith Squadron books to be adapted. This means that many Legends stories set in the Warlords period of the war can now be adapted. Still, The Mandalorian established that the Empire wasn't totally destroyed or off hiding and becoming the First Order, creating an Imperial Remnant in the years before the Sequel Trilogy. This would have made it difficult to adapt much of Legends' post-Endor content. Canon's post-Endor timeline saw the Empire defeated at the Battle of Jakku, mostly because of Operation Cinder, which saw the Imperials go scorched earth on their own forces to punish themselves, allowing the Emperor to be killed. The war against the Empire lasted for over a decade after Endor, with multiple novels telling the tale of the war. The post-Battle of Endor eras of canon and Legends are very different. Novel Titles: Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, Solo Command. This novel could easily slot into the Clone Wars timeline with little problems. The novel has some amazing characters, including the villain Kar Vastor, the last living member of Windu's ghôsh/clan, and Nick Rostu, a classic Star Wars rogue. The book introduced the lightsaber style known as Vapaad, which Windu had created, an extremely dangerous style with its practitioners skate the edge of the dark side and the Force power known as the shatterpoint, which Mace was also a master of. ![]() The book is excellent, a sometimes brutal war story that dug into who Mace Windu was, where he came from, and what it meant to him. Bilaba disappeared, sending a cryptic message to the Jedi Council, which drew Mace Windu to look for her. Jedi Master Depa Bilaba was sent to the planet to help the natives, who had powerful Force traditions, fight off the Separatists. This book featured fan favorite Jedi Master Mace Windu returning to his home planet of Haruun Kal, a world whose long-running Summertime War had become a part of the Clone Wars. ![]() There are a lot of great stories from this period, but the best of the bunch was easily Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. The point was to flesh out the Clone Wars before the next movie, and it contained novels, comics, video games, and Star Wars: Clone Wars, a "micro-series" of animated shorts from Genddy Tartakovsky. After Attack Of The Clones, Lucasfilm unveiled the Clone Wars Multimedia Project.
